(Because nobody wants a medium-rare Holstein)
This weekend was HOT!! Are you keeping cool? What about your livestock??
Check out these great tips from UW Extension Livestock:
From the Facebook of: Wisconsin Livestock – Extension
Here are a few things to remember to help livestock through the heat stress.
Water: Make sure animals have access to fresh, clean water as consumption will increase. Water intake may nearly double, and this is even more important for lactating animals. If tank space and capacity is limited, provide more water sources to minimize crowding around tanks.
Avoid handling, transporting, moving, or processing livestock. If these activities must occur during this time, they should be done early in the morning hours while using low-stress handling techniques, but it is best to delay them until better weather when possible.
When possible, provide shade and make sure there is adequate ventilation, especially in buildings.
