🐝Bee Our Guest For A Pollinator Party🌼

Warm weather means summer hangouts and barbeques. If you want to host a party this summer, consider making it a pollinator party!

Invite butterflies with the right plants for these species to lay their eggs, which also provide a food source for their caterpillars. Here are the host plants for a few Wisconsin butterflies:

– Common milkweed: monarchs

– Violets: meadow fritillary

– Dill, fennel and parsley: black swallowtails

– Sheep sorrel: American copper

Painted lady butterflies often lay their eggs on thistles, but we understand that’s an unwelcome peril in your lawn! Thankfully, they also lay their eggs on asters, lavender and clover.

Adult butterflies love all types of flowers. They’ll also frequent nonnative flowers like lilacs, zinnias, cosmos and dandelions.
